Sculptra is a biostimulatory filler that works by stimulating the body’s natural collagen production to gradually add volume and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Unlike traditional fillers that immediately plump the skin, Sculptra provides long-lasting, natural-looking results by addressing the underlying cause of skin concerns.
You might be interested in cosmetic dermal fillers using Sculptra if you want to:
- Reduce deep wrinkles
- Elevate recessed areas of skin.
- Redefine or soften contours.
- Treat fat loss (lipoatrophy)
- Improve skin’s tone
Once injected, Sculptra breaks downs and starts a cascade healing reaction, which increases collagen production. Although you may be happy immediately it will plateau, while the body starts producing new healthy collagen (protein). Sculptra takes about two months to fully take effect. Most patient’s need 2 treatments and sometimes three depending on the condition of the face and skin. Once full effect is achieved, results can last more than two years. Sculptra isn’t a permanent solution and will need repeat treatments every 2 years to maintain results.
The steps of a Sculptra injection include:
- Your provider will clean the area of skin where you’ll get an injection.
- They will give you a topical anesthetic to numb the area of your skin so pain or discomfort will be minimized.
- The Sculptra will be injected underneath your skin with a small needle. You may feel some pressure, but you shouldn’t feel pain.
- Once done the treatment, numbing will last about an hour.
After a Sculptra injection:
When your provider completes the Sculptra injection, you’re free to go about your normal activities without interruption. You’ll want to avoid strenuous activities for a couple of days. There may be bruising or swelling at the injection site that will go away after a couple of days. You do need to massage the area(s) 5 times a day, for 5 minutes, for 5 days. This helps to push the Sculptra into the tissues. If you feel sore, you can take over-the-counter NSAIDS as your provider advises. Within about a month of injection, you should start to notice that your skin looks plumper or fuller.
